Overview
Join the HJF Team! This position is contingent upon contract award. HJF is seeking a Research Scientist to develop and supervise research projects, investigate the feasibility of applying scientific principles to potential inventions, and develop new technologies and protocols. Must have clinical TBI research experience. This position will support the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) at Fort Carson, Colorado.
The TBICoE is a branch of the Research Support Division in the Research and Engineering Directorate of the Defense Health Agency (DHA). The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine.
- Plans, executes, and oversees laboratory research. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.
- Monitors scientific literature. Prepares written reports and manuscripts for scientific journals and patent applications.
- Coordinates and prepares new grant and funding applications.
- Processes and interprets experimental data and maintains detailed workbooks/documentation.
- Collaborates with other technical and professional staff. Trains and supervises technical staff.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
- Assigned Lead: May recommend employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries, and provide input on employee performance evaluations.
- Doctoral Degree required. Ph.D., MD, MD/PhD, or terminal doctorate in a related scientific discipline preferred. May consider a Master’s degree with at least 10 years of clinical TBI research experience.
- Must complete CITI/ HIPAA training.
- Minimum Experience:
2-3 years of clinical research experience required. - Prior experience within the DoD/VA systems of care with neurological disorders and TBI clinical research experience strongly preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and in a supervisory capacity depending on local leadership needs.
- Ability to produce data for and author peer reviewed journal articles, manuscripts, research grant applications, posters, and research reports.
- Proficiency with computer software, Microsoft Office, and relevant statistical tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.
- Lifting:
Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs. - Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
- Primarily in a clinical, hospital, and office setting.
- The annual salary range for this position is $88,600-$140,000, based on experience and education.

Employment with HJF is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, including a criminal background check and a DMV check if applicable.
