Scope of WorkThe Fire Alarm Technician inspects electrical /fire alarm/mass notification systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs, and performing preventive maintenance.
Responsibilities- Repairs, maintains, tests and replaces fire alarm systems and components including, but not limited to, panels, annunciator panels, central station receivers, transmitters, transmitter interfaces, interface panels, transmitter antennae, initiating devices, signaling devices, supervisory devices, auxiliary devices, computer system, cables, wiring, and raceways.
- Removes, repairs, maintains, and replaces mass notification system and components including, but not limited to, internal building systems siren tower, solar panels, control boards, message boards, amplifier, and speaker drivers.
- Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarm and/or other related electrical systems for the purpose of determining installation of new or upgraded systems.
- Coordinates with Supervisor and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
- Diagnoses causes of electrical problems or failures in assigned systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair.
- Maintains assigned vehicle, tools and test equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment in the workplace. Requests material and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation or repair.
- Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Adheres to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must possess NICET 2 Fire Alarm Tech Certification.
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years journey-level experience, preferred. Each complete year of accredited college education in a related field may be substituted for the equivalent number of years of required experience.
- Base competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include but are not limited to operating equipment used in the repair and maintenance of electrical and fire systems. Preparing and maintaining accurate records: adhering to safety practices: and handling hazardous materials.
- Based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include methods, techniques, materials, tools used in the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of the electrical systems/subsystems; troubleshoot/maintain alarm systems, and the ability to read and use blueprints and schematics.
- Specific ability - based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; working independently and with interruptions; and complying with company and OSHA requirements.
