About the RoleAs a Broadband Technician II
, you will perform intermediate to complex installations, disconnects and service changes for residential customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home RFoG and GPON). The role involves video service, HSD services, and home phone service, moderate troubleshooting from the tap to the customer’s electronic devices, and underground and/or aerial construction with system plant repair and maintenance. You will install, splice, repair and maintain aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and coax cable.
Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, you must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Fort Carson, CO warehouse (1510 Hare Street, Fort Carson, CO 80913).
This position can be hired at either a Broadband Technician I, II or III level depending on your skills and qualifications. Please refer to each posting for specific minimum qualifications and apply for the level(s) you are interested in.
Job Responsibilities- Performs intermediate and complex installation of cable wiring and hardware from the tap/MST to the customer’s equipment for reception of cable and other company services for single, multi‑family customers and/or commercial dwellings over both fiber optic and coax delivery methods. Responsible for NESC safety inspections, coordination of underground drop burial work, permitting, and ensuring compliance with construction and government standards.
- Performs connects (new and reconnects), disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, relocates, installs additional outlets, fiber connections, and hardline cutovers; installs or removes equipment (e.g., converters) at single or multiple unit dwellings.
- Utilizes test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimum reception for optical and RF. Uses locators, TDRs, FDRs, OTDRs, and reads system maps and blueprints. May include climbing poles, ladders, towers, or using a bucket truck.
- Performs all work to conform to quality control guidelines, complying with OSHA, FCC, NEC, and NESC regulations.
- Monitors and records system, drop, and in‑house leakage; properly records all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
- Promotes cable, internet, and other company services; educates customers on proper use of the service, including adding additional services, channel lineups, and equipment usage.
- 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
- 6+ months of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation, and switch training.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs and obligations to customers.
- Upon hire, successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, including background checks.
- Available for on‑call/standby duties, occasional travel, and overtime as needed.
- Successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a GVRW >10,000 lbs.
- Reliable, responsible, and dedicated to teamwork.
- Practical knowledge of computer applications or burial construction.
- Familiarity with company products and services.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task with limited instruction.
- Demonstrated customer service, sales skills, and effective verbal & written communication.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Physical requirements vary: ability to dig, lift, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and occasionally lift up to 100 lbs.
- Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Technician course.
- Certification: SCTE Service Technician (Technical Foundation, Customer Service, Troubleshooting) or SCTE BDS or NCTI Installer Technician Course.
- Successful completion of the SCTE Installer Certification.
