Scope of WorkThe Fire Alarm Technician inspects electrical, fire alarm, and mass notification systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs, and performing preventive maintenance.
Responsibilities- Repairs, maintains, tests and replaces fire alarm systems and components including panels, annunciator panels, central station receivers, transmitters, transmitter interfaces, interface panels, transmitter antennae, initiating devices, signaling devices, supervisory devices, auxiliary devices, computer systems, cables, wiring, and raceways.
- Removes, repairs, maintains and replaces mass notification system components including building sirens, tower, solar panels, control boards, message boards, amplifiers, and speaker drivers.
- Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarm and related electrical systems to determine installation of new or upgraded systems.
- Coordinates with supervisor and/or other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
- Diagnoses causes of electrical problems or failures in assigned systems to identify equipment and/or system repairs.
- Maintains assigned vehicle, tools and test equipment for availability; requests materials and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure items required to complete installations or repairs.
- Responds to emergency situations during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Adheres to company policies, procedures and safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must possess NICET 2 Fire Alarm Tech Certification.
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years journey-level experience, preferred. Each complete year of accredited college education in a related field may be substituted for the equivalent number of years of required experience.
- Base competencies include operating repair and maintenance equipment, preparing and maintaining accurate records, adhering to safety practices, and handling hazardous materials.
- Competencies include methods, techniques, materials and tools used for installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems/subsystems; troubleshooting/maintaining alarm systems; reading and using blueprints and schematics.
- Specific ability‑based competencies include adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team, independently and with interruptions; complying with company and OSHA requirements.
- Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier
1) background check. - Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
- Must be able to work alternate shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer’s mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.
