West Water Research seeks a Staff Accountant to join their finance team in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Staff Accountant will be critical in supporting daily accounting operations, assisting with financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and tax requirements. This role will report to the Controller.

With a national practice, West Water assists clients that are buying and selling water rights and other water assets through comprehensive financial and economic analysis of water markets on a regional and local level. What You Do

• Prepare journal entries in accounting software in conformity with US GAAP
• Perform monthly reconciliations for cash, payables, receivables and other accounting processes
• Prepare and maintain monthly detailed account schedules
• Receive and reconcile expense reports and other financial reports with account balances and supporting information
• Initiate payment to vendors, which may include verification of banking information and vendor 1099 reporting information
• Coordinate with supervisors to prepare forecasts and assist with budgeting processes
• Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements
• Assist with preparing schedules for tax return preparation throughout the fiscal year and assist the tax preparer with annual filings
• Assist in filing annual Form-1099s
• Prepare schedules for the annual audit
• Present recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies
• Maintain knowledge of organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards
• Assist with projects and initiatives as needed in a dynamic environment

What You Have (required)

• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments to independently meet deadlines and complete tasks in an accurate manner
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Highly skilled in accounting and financial processes
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented and highly organized
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite
• Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (master’s is a plus)
  • 2-5 years’ experience in accounting

What You Have (Preferred)

• Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations
• Experience with Net Suite or other Accounting software
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis)

Compensation

• Salary Range: $60,000-$85,000 based on experience.
