Collections Specialist

Description We are looking for a Collections Specialist to support receivables management for a manufacturing operation in Fort Collins, Colorado. This Contract position will focus on evaluating customer accounts, managing collection efforts, and helping reduce outstanding balances while maintaining strong client relationships. The role also partners closely with internal teams to address billing concerns, support credit decisions, and contribute to steady cash flow.

Responsibilities:

- Evaluate new and existing customer accounts by reviewing credit information and related documentation to support sound risk decisions.

- Track receivables aging and proactively contact customers to secure payment on overdue invoices.

- Research billing questions, payment discrepancies, and disputed charges to bring accounts to resolution efficiently.

- Reconcile customer balances, post or verify payments, and keep account records current and accurate.

- Document collection activity, account updates, and customer interactions in a clear and organized manner.

- Work with sales, customer service, and accounting partners to resolve account issues that affect timely payment.

- Prepare recurring updates on delinquent balances, recovery progress, and overall credit exposure for internal review.

- Identify accounts that require credit restrictions, escalation, or further action based on payment history and risk level.

- Follow company guidelines, financial controls, and applicable regulations throughout credit and collections activities. Requirements - At least 2 years of experience in collections, credit, accounts receivable, or a closely related function.

- Working knowledge of commercial and consumer collections practices, billing follow-up, and account resolution processes.

- Ability to assess credit risk and support decisions related to credit limits and payment terms.

- Experience using business systems and Microsoft Excel to manage account activity and reporting.

- Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to handle sensitive customer matters professionally.

- High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail when maintaining financial records.

- Ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
