Ayres Associates’ structural engineers have proudly served our clients for more than 50 years. The structural group has experienced significant growth in the past few years. We’re seeking experienced and driven structural engineers who are ready to advance their career as a discipline supervisor. The ideal candidates will have a passion for structural design, leading structural design teams, employee engagement and mentoring, and strategically aligning talents with opportunities.

As a discipline supervisor within Ayres, you will lead structural staff to successfully deliver quality projects to our clients.

Success will be defined by your ability as a discipline supervisor:
  • To develop client relationships; identify, pursue, win structural projects.
  • To manage clients and resources for structural-related projects.
  • To contribute to the overall leadership of the Structural group.
  • To make hiring recommendations as the discipline grows and be instrumental in the career development staff within the discipline.
On any given day, you’ll:
  • Take the lead in successfully marketing and winning structural projects.
  • Manage clients.
  • Manage projects including overseeing the production of all project work, ensuring that the work is produced on schedule, profitably, and in conformance with the quality standards of Ayres Associates.
  • Perform technical writing (proposals, memos, reports, presentations, etc.)
  • Develop technical approaches, fee estimates, and contracts for approval by the group manager.
  • Provide initial review of contracts developed by others on your team for ultimate review and approval by the structural group manager.
  • Provide oversight of projects within your team including QAQC, resource allocation, and technical advice.
  • Build and maintain respectful working relationships with fellow co-workers and leaders within the company.
  • Support and participate in the supervision, development, and mentorship of staff.
  • Lead regularly scheduled team meetings to discuss projects, pursuits, workload, and resource utilization.
  • Provide input to division leadership for the development of an annual business plan and budget for the group.
  • Actively engage in local, statewide, and/or national professional organizations.
  • Participate in office-wide social events.
  • Travel to various Ayres offices as needed to support staff and projects.
Required Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration.
  • Demonstrated and recognized expertise in structural engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of financial project management.
  • Ability to travel throughout the year.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.

Skills and Experience:
  • An advanced degree (MS or higher) in structural engineering, business administration, or related field is beneficial, but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and with other team members in multiple offices.
  • Aptitude to coaching and mentoring others.
  • Proven success in meeting client expectations, profitably managing projects, maintaining design schedules, and adhering to applicable regulations.
  • Eagerness to cultivate a team environment where all staff members feel valued and supported and all ideas flow freely.

Our good-faith compensation approach is fair and equitable, and takes into consideration only permissible factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, training, skills, and experience, and geographic location where the work is performed. A salary range for this posting is $135000 - $165000. The foregoing salary range represents what the company believes, in good‑faith, it will pay for the posted opportunity.

The individual selected for this role will be evaluated with the compensation factors in mind and placed appropriately.
