Position Overview
Ayres Associates is seeking experienced structural engineers to advance their careers as a discipline supervisor. The ideal candidate is passionate about structural design, leading design teams, engaging employees, and mentoring staff, while strategically aligning talents with opportunities. As a discipline supervisor, you will lead structural staff to successfully deliver quality projects to our clients.
Responsibilities- Develop client relationships; identify, pursue, and win structural projects.
- Manage clients and resources for structural‑related projects.
- Contribute to the overall leadership of the Structural group.
- Make hiring recommendations and support career development of staff.
- Lead marketing and winning of structural projects.
- Manage projects, including overseeing production of all project work, ensuring schedule, profitability, and quality standards.
- Perform technical writing (proposals, memos, reports, presentations, etc.).
- Develop technical approaches, fee estimates, and contracts for approval by the group manager.
- Review contracts for approval by the structural group manager.
- Oversee projects within your team—QA/QC, resource allocation, and technical advice.
- Build and maintain respectful working relationships with co‑workers and leaders.
- Support and participate in supervision, development, and mentorship of staff.
- Lead regular team meetings to discuss projects, pursuits, workload, and resource utilization.
- Provide input to division leadership for annual business plan and budget for the group.
- Engage in local, statewide, or national professional organizations.
- Participate in office‑wide social events.
- Travel to various Ayres offices as needed to support staff and projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Professional Engineer registration.
- Demonstrated and recognized expertise in structural engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid understanding of financial project management.
- Ability to travel throughout the year.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Advanced degree (MS or higher) in structural engineering, business administration, or a related field (beneficial but not required).
- Ability to work independently and with team members across multiple offices.
- Aptitude for coaching and mentoring others.
- Proven success meeting client expectations, profitably managing projects, maintaining design schedules, and adhering to applicable regulations.
- Eagerness to cultivate a team environment where all staff feel valued and supported, and ideas flow freely.
