Project Manager – Tunnels and Trenchless

The Grade 6‑7 Senior Project Manager – Tunnels and Trenchless role is a senior‑level position suited for individuals experienced in the field of practice (primarily tunnel and trenchless design), capable of managing medium to large engineering projects, with honed professional communication and collaboration protocols, and comfortable leading teams and mentoring more junior engineers and geologists.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Manage primarily tunnel and trenchless projects as well as geotechnical, geological, and geo‑structural projects (consulting engineer project values from $100k to + $1M) throughout the United States, including developing proposals, managing scope, fee, schedules, and invoices.
  • Perform and/or oversee geotechnical and structural design calculations using hand calculations, Geo Studio, Roc Science, and finite element modeling software as appropriate.
  • Direct and mentor staff in data collection and analysis to support engineering designs, including subsurface investigations, well construction, field mapping, geophysics, permitting, and other field work.
  • Direct and mentor staff in creating design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or GIS software as appropriate.
  • Lead preparation of technical reports including memorandums, specifications, geotechnical investigation reports, tunnel feasibility reports, geotechnical data and baseline reports, construction cost estimates, basis of design reports, etc.
  • Develop related business sectors, including participation in conferences and professional groups related to geotechnical, tunnel, trenchless, geo‑structural, and geologic engineering.
  • Promote a cooperative and encouraging company culture.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Geologist (PG), or ability to acquire upon hire.
  • 15–20 years of experience in underground construction and design for civil structures.
  • Expertise in material sciences (steel and concrete), applied mathematics, fluid dynamics (pipeline, open channel, and groundwater).
  • Understanding of geologic hazards (assessment, mitigation, and design); soil and rock mechanics, engineering geology (civil applications).
  • Strong knowledge of engineering (civil, geotechnical, or structural) and underground construction and design for civil structures.
  • Ability to identify soils and bedrock.
