Responsibilities- Assessment & Diagnosis:
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories, physical exams, and diagnostic testing. - Diagnosis:
Identify and diagnose acute, chronic, and complex health conditions. - Treatment Planning:
Develop individualized care plans that address patient needs, including treatment goals and expected outcomes. - Prescribing:
Prescribe medications, therapies, and medical devices.
Conditions of employment:
Selectee may be subject to a probationary period. U.S. citizenship is required. Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101‑630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. The agency must ensure that persons hired have not been found guilty of, or pleaded nolo contend ere or guilty to, certain crimes.
Compliance with the IHS Employee Immunization Policy related to vaccine‑preventable diseases is required for duties performed in IHS healthcare facilities.
Background Investigation:
If selected, you must undergo a pre‑employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Results must be cleared prior to hire, and continued employment is contingent upon successful completion.
Education must include a graduate or higher‑level degree, bachelor’s, associate, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program (e.g., COCD, CCANAP, ACME, or recognized by the U.S. Department of Education).
Foreign Degree:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for graduates of foreign nursing schools.
Advanced Practice Nurse:
Must possess a graduate or higher‑level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.
Licensure:
Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
Additional License Requirements:
For Advanced Practice Nurse positions, must be licensed or registered in the clinical specialty required by the position.
Experience:
At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower federal grade level, including independent practice, diagnosing, prescribing, managing acute and chronic care, developing treatment plans, providing referrals, delivering emergency services, collaborating with health professionals, and participating in quality improvement activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
As outlined above, including successful completion of E‑Verify and background checks.
