Upper School Counselor

Position begins in the  academic year.

The School Counselor provides information, support and guidance to students, parents, and teachers in an effort to promote emotional health and academic success. The approach is student-centered; services focus on coping skills, responsible behavior, and proactive interventions.

• Supports the School’s mission and adheres to policies and procedures.
• Co-leads the Advisory and Character Education Program in the Upper School.
• Counsels individuals and groups on academic course work, time management, stress reduction, study skills, and healthy decisions.
• Works with the Services for Students with Disabilities Committee, observes students, recommends ADA accommodations.
• Serves as Chair for the Division Student Wellness Team.
• Monitors student achievement and facilitates intervention when a pattern of need emerges.
• Identifies students at risk for academic failure and implements improvement plans.
• Acts as the Upper School standardized testing coordinator for PSAT, SAT, ACT.
• Meets with parents to foster a collaborative approach to student achievement.
• Supports students and the School with crisis intervention.
• Assists with development and implementation of support and prevention programs.
• Participates in parent programming as requested by the Division Head.
• Actively seeks out professional growth opportunities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Department Supervisor or designee.

• Master’s degree in Counseling, Guidance, or Social Work.
• 2+ years of experience in school counseling.
• Licensure or certification in school counseling, school psychology, social work, or closely related field.
