UPPER SCHOOL ROBOTICS TEACHER

THE ROLE

The Upper School Robotics Teacher is a passionate, student-centered educator who plays a key role in strengthening our robotics and engineering program across grades 6–12. This teacher will design and teach both introductory and advanced robotics and engineering courses, while also serving as a lead contributor to our competitive robotics programs, including FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC).

The ideal candidate is first and foremost an exceptional classroom teacher—an enthusiastic pedagogue who fosters deep thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and perseverance through hands-on, inquiry-driven instruction.

Related duties shall be those guided by the NBPS mission and vision and those assigned by the administrative leadership team.

Curriculum Development and Instruction

The Upper School Robotics Teacher will:

  • Design and implement vertically aligned introductory and advanced robotics and engineering courses for grades 6–12.
  • Deliver rigorous, student-centered, project-based instruction that emphasizes design thinking, iteration, testing, and reflection.
  • Teach students foundational and advanced concepts in:
    Robotics and automation;
    Mechanical systems and fabrication;
    Electronics and circuitry;
    Programming and control systems
  • Demonstrate fluency in both hardware and software environments to support full-system robotics learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to support a wide range of learners, including beginners and advanced students, English language learners, and students with mild specific learning disabilities.
  • Use backwards planning and assessment-driven instruction to monitor student growth, provide meaningful feedback, and promote mastery.
  • Connect engineering practices to authentic real-world challenges that emphasize purposeful design, systems thinking, and innovation.
Competitive Robotics and Extracurricular Leadership

The Upper School Robotics Teacher will:

  • Lead and support NBPS competitive robotics teams competing in both FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)
  • Prepare students for all phases of competitive robotics, including:
    Robot design, build, wiring, and testing;
    Programming and controls;
    Strategy, scouting, and match analysis;
    Documentation, judging, and presentation
  • Foster a team culture grounded in inclusion, perseverance, personal responsibility, innovation, and collaborative problem solving.
  • Support after-school practices, weekend competitions, and related events as part of the robotics season.
Program Development and Collaboration

The Upper School Robotics Teacher will:

  • Contribute to the strategic growth and long-term vision of the 6–12 robotics and engineering program.
  • Collaborate with faculty to strengthen interdisciplinary learning connections.
  • Support recruitment and retention of students into robotics and engineering pathways.
  • Participate in department meetings and curriculum alignment work.
  • Help maintain lab safety standards, equipment organization, and responsible use of materials and tools.
