Job Description

North Broward Preparatory School, a Nord Anglia Education school, is seeking a high school American Sign Language teacher to expand the language offerings in our World Languages and Cultures department. The teacher will be in charge of the ASL curriculum development and implementation. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic educator with strong ASL skills and a commitment to high-quality language instruction.

We are looking for an Interim Teacher who can start in April for approximately 12 weeks, with the potential to transition into a full-time ASL teaching role for the 2026–2027 school year.

JOB PURPOSE

You’ll help us increase student achievement by serving as a teacher, advocate, and advisor.

You’ll create and implement the ASL courses intended as a 2-year program by selecting and planning appropriate learning and teaching activities.

Your role will impact the organization by creating a safe learning environment in which students can take intellectual risks.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Articulate the Mission, Vision, and Values of the school and Nord Anglia, both verbally and in writing.
  • Understand all elements, goals, instructional best practice strategies, embodied in the academic plan, as well as the ability to clearly articulate the plan to parents and students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create and implement the ASL curriculum
  • Select and plan appropriate learning and teaching activities that are in alignment with NBPS standards
  • Collaborate with other WLC teammates in creating PBL opportunities for our students
  • Follow ACTFL standards and benchmarks for proficiency
  • Exercise good classroom management with the use of fair and consistent standards and appropriate sanctions that are clearly articulated to the students
  • Encourage students to ask questions and to express their difficulties.
  • Know and use a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives.
  • Differentiate instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Identify students who need additional academic assistance and be able to refer such students appropriately.
  • Develop lessons that engage students in higher order thinking (refer to Bloom's Taxonomy).
  • Provide a safe learning environment in which students can take intellectual risks.
  • Use learning resources and technology to enhance lessons where appropriate
  • Create a stimulating and challenging learning environment
PLANNING AND PREPARATION
  • Effective organizational skills including but not limited to lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments
  • Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner
  • Create an environment that fosters a growth mindset.
  • Create an atmosphere of mutual respect.
PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Follow NBPS Professional Protocols
  • Attend all meetings as required (division, departmental, etc.)
  • Attend World Languages conferences to remain a lifelong learner focused on growth and improvement.
  • Collaborate with the WLC team in PBL development
  • Conduct research on second language acquisition methods and materials.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) rating of 3–5 (required).
  • Familiarity with the formative and summative approach.
  • Member of ACTFL or other language association preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification (or eligibility to obtain certification) in ASL/World Languages preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for producing reports and presentations.
  • Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures.
