We are looking for a Renewable Plant - Onboarding Engineer on behalf of our client. This is a 1-year contract assignment. (W-2) You will support the onboarding of new renewable generation and battery energy storage facilities into Power Generation Division operations and the NERC Compliance program. This position will serve as the technical engineering lead for the collection, review, validation, and acceptance of engineering and NERC compliance evidence required prior to and following Commercial Operation Date (COD).

Candidates applying for this position should possess a strong electrical and power systems engineering background with the ability to independently review and interpret electrical drawings, equipment specifications, power system studies, protection and control settings, commissioning documentation, power system models, and test results. Particular emphasis will be placed on NERC MOD-related modeling, testing, and model verification, including verifying consistency between models, installed equipment, electrical drawings, field settings, commissioning results, and the final as-built facility configuration.

1-year contract assignment. (W-2)

Responsibilities will include:
  • Manage and technically review engineering and NERC compliance evidence required for onboarding new renewable generation and battery energy storage facilities
  • Review pre-synchronization and as-built power system models, including applicable PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD models, and verify consistency with equipment data, drawings, field settings, and commissioning results
  • Review and interpret electrical one-line and three-line diagrams, transmission, substation and collection system drawings, equipment specifications, cable and impedance data, transformer parameters, and other electrical design documentation
  • Review MOD-related testing and model verification results to confirm that models and supporting evidence appropriately represent the installed facility and demonstrated performance
  • Review plant controller, inverter, protection and relay settings, short-circuit studies, reactive capability studies, frequency and voltage ride-through documentation, commissioning test results, and other applicable technical evidence.
  • Identify discrepancies between drawings, models, equipment specifications, field settings, engineering studies, test results, and as-built documentation and coordinate resolution with applicable stakeholders
  • Coordinate with Engineering & Construction, Operations, OEMs, engineering consultants, Transmission Owners, ISO/RTOs, and NERC Compliance personnel to resolve technical and documentation deficiencies and support timely completion of onboarding requirements.
  • Track technical evidence requirements and deliverables through pre-synchronization, COD, and post-COD closeout and provide visibility into incomplete or deficient items
  • Support engineering evaluation of evidence associated with applicable NERC BAL, EOP, FAC, MOD, PRC, and VAR requirements
  • Develop and implement process automation solutions to improve the efficiency, quality, consistency, and scalability of engineering and compliance activities
  • Utilize AI/development tools such as Python, Power Automate to automate engineering data processing, evidence validation, data reconciliation, calculations, quality checks, and other repeatable engineering activities
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards to provide visibility into onboarding status, evidence completeness, technical review status, deficiencies, due dates, and overall project readiness
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual evidence collection, tracking, review, and validation processes
  • Utilize Maximo to support integration of engineering and compliance activities with applicable asset information and work management processes.
  • Develop repeatable and traceable engineering processes that support consistent onboarding practices across the renewable fleet
  • Provide engineering judgment to determine whether submitted evidence is technically sufficient.
