Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (CCLA) established in 2003 is a Legal Services Corporation (LSC) funded, non‑profit organization. CCLA provides free civil legal services to low‑income and otherwise eligible residents of Broward County and is located in Plantation, Florida, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale. CCLA provides legal assistance in the areas of Family Law & Victims of Crime, Economic Advocacy & Community Health (public benefits), and Senior Law for people age 60 and older. CCLA is seeking a full‑time Intake Paralegal to work at its satellite office located at the Broward County Downtown Fort Lauderdale Courthouse. The Centralized Intake Paralegal will be responsible for screening applicants for eligibility and providing supportive services to the attorneys and other staff members. The Intake Paralegal will also assist with completion of prescreens and applications, interviewing applicants/clients, collecting documents and pleadings, and gathering information about the applicants/clients.
This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position, Monday–Friday located at the Broward County 17th Judicial Circuit Downtown Courthouse (201 SE 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301).
Position Duties- Responsible for answering phone calls and promptly returning phone calls and/or emails.
- Following up on referrals from all units, organizations, agencies, and online intake applications.
- Screens applicants/clients by phone, electronically, and in‑person.
- Setting up intake appointments and meeting with applicants/clients.
- Completing conflict checks, prescreens, and intakes.
- Determining eligibility for services.
- Completing intakes in case management system either by communicating with applicants via telephone, electronically, or in‑person.
- Maintains records, case notes and daily time‑keeping in CCLA’s case management system.
- Explaining intake/compliance documents and having them signed by applicant or client.
- Case acceptance from, and referrals to, outside organizations including other legal aid organizations.
- Performs community outreach events in‑person and virtually, as well as on social media, and conducts educational trainings for staff, clients, and community providers, as needed.
- Compliance with program and grant requirements.
- Attends mandated trainings and train other staff as needed.
- Works closely, as part of a team, with all CCLA units.
- Performs other duties as requested by CCLA Management, Supervisors, or as required by grant(s).
- Associate’s degree and/or paralegal certificate are preferred. Relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
- 1 to 5 years of experience preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish/English.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Detail‑oriented.
- Must have the ability to multitask, work efficiently and independently with supervision.
- Professional demeanor and client‑oriented focus.
- A commitment and passion for working with the low‑income community.
