The Communications & Development Intern supports Second Chance Society's fundraising, communications, and community engagement efforts. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Donor & Community Relations Director, this position assists with donor stewardship, corporate partnerships, marketing, special events, digital communications, and community outreach.
This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership, philanthropy, communications, and strategic relationship management while helping expand Second Chance Society's impact throughout Broward County.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & Development
- Support donor stewardship activities, including thank-you letters, acknowledgments, and reengagement phone calls, and impact updates.
- Help research prospective corporate, foundation, and individual donors.
- Maintain organized donor files and development records.
- Assist with preparation of board and fundraising reports.
- Support grant-related communications and partner follow-up.
- Create social media content (engaging reels, videos, and graphics) awareness and fundraising campaigns.
- Support social media engagement efforts to increase brand visibility.
- Assist with website updates and content management.
- Draft newsletters, e-news content, and email communications.
- Develop flyers, brochures, and promotional materials using tools like Canva.
- Assist with photography and videography during events.
- Assist in coordinating community outreach initiatives.
- Help schedule and prepare for corporate tours and partner meetings.
- Support volunteer recruitment and recognition activities.
- Attend community events, networking functions, and outreach opportunities as assigned.
- Assist with planning donor appreciation and community engagement events
Reports to the Chief Executive Officer with day-to-day supervision from the Donor & Community Relations Director.
Internship Details
- Academic credit available (as approved by the student's college or university)
- Flexible schedule (approximately 10–20 hours per week)
- Professional supervision and mentoring provided throughout the internship.
- Meaningful hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership, workforce development, and community engagement

The Second Chance Society Internship Program prepares emerging nonprofit, communications, and human services professionals through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Interns work alongside experienced leaders, contribute to mission-driven initiatives, and develop practical skills that prepare them for successful careers in nonprofit leadership, workforce development, philanthropy, communications, and community engagement.

Qualifications
We are seeking someone who is:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in:
Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Social Work or Human Services, Public Administration, Journalism, or a related field - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Comfortable learning new technology platforms.
- Experience with Canva.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Experience using social media professionally.
- Interest in nonprofit leadership, philanthropy, communications, workforce development and community impact.
- Photography or basic graphic design experience is a plus.
