Under general supervision, renders professional nursing care in accordance with physicians' treatment plans to provide comfort and well‑being for patients. Assesses patients' conditions, administers prescribed drugs, provides treatments, observes progress, records observations, and reports reactions to treatment. Assists physicians with examinations and prepares instruments and equipment for physicians’ use. Coordinates care planning, collaborates with clinical and medical staff, and educates patients and their families in a compassionate, patient‑centered environment.
Supports and upholds the quality standards of a Magnet‑designated hospital and the Patient Bill of Rights.
Specific Duties
- Completes all nursing multi‑system assessments that include head‑to‑toe evaluations, vitals, dressing changes, suctioning, feeding, bathing, and repositioning.
- Reviews patient admission history and accurately completes the discharge planning process as per department and hospital policies & procedures.
- Communicates the patient's progress, including critical findings and changes in condition, with the physician and/or other disciplines involved in the child's care.
- Plans, implements, and documents the plan of care in collaboration with other disciplines and services to ensure safe and efficient care.
- Provides nursing care that includes IV site monitoring and troubleshooting, specimen collection, and assists the medical team with special procedures.
- Follows physician’s orders and administers & reconstitutes medications directed, adhering to the six rights of medication administration.
- Collaborates and rounds with a multidisciplinary team in daily care planning rounds and fosters a Family‑Centered Care environment.
- Accesses the electronic health record independently according to hospital policy and completes accurate, timely documentation.
- Communicates with patients and families to review the plan of care and addresses any concerns.
- Educates patients and their families about disease processes, post‑treatment home care, medication, pain, discharge, and safety.
- Promotes an “error‑free” working environment by providing high‑quality, safe care, conducting prevention rounding, and promptly following up on identified concerns.
- Assesses all body systems, ensuring safe, effective, and efficient care delivery with emphasis on avoiding medication errors, falls, procedural pain, and pain reduction.
- Provides patient information and completes the hand‑off process at shift change and patient reassignments.
Job Requirements
- Completion of a nursing program from an accredited school of nursing.
- RN Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi‑State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC); maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
- American Heart Association BLS – maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
- American Heart Association PALS required within 1 year of hire – maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as specified by the department within 1 year of hire.
- American Heart Association ACLS as specified by the department within 1 year of hire.
- 1 year RN experience required.
- Crisis Intervention Training (CPI) is preferred.
- National certification preferred within 2 years of hire.
- Functions as an IV champion within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to work in an acute care setting, demonstrating strong problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong time‑management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Participation and support of nursing research projects and/or authorship of an evidence‑based article within 2 years of hire.
- Works effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Flexibility and passion for learning.
- Ability to apply principles of evidence‑based practice, analytical thinking, and service excellence in practice.
- Able to analyze and interpret data and utilize information to make patient‑care judgments.
- Floats to various nursing units while maintaining clinical excellence and high‑quality service.
- Coverage for on‑call assignments per department and hospital policy.
