Primary Purpose

Participates in the design, execution, analysis, and evaluation of research projects directly aligned with the educational goals of the student and the Oceanographic Center.

Essential Job Functions

• Contributes to basic and applied research activities. Performs a variety of tests, makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results.
• Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
• Assists writing research reports for funding agencies.
• May participate in the publication of significant results.
• Advances expertise through education, training, and/or research experience.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements

Must hold a valid driver's license and insured, working vehicle for use in fieldwork.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Database and data entry skills.
• Ability to utilize or learn to utilize software relevant to the research program, new research methods and work routines quickly.
• Ability to attain required certification for applicable research program or project.
• Ability to read and comprehend reports and other scientific literature.

Required Certifications/Licensures

Must have a valid Driver's License.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree.

Major (if required)

Biology or related science.

Required Experience

• Six (6) months experience working in a laboratory or scientific research environment.
• Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program at the Oceanographic Center.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest in evolutionary biology, epidemiology, and/or environmental science.
