Job OverviewBigge Crane & Rigging Co. is seeking a Junior Hoist Technician to join our team in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area. This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow within the hoist and lifting equipment industry while supporting maintenance and repair operations across Florida. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of electrical systems, know how to read electrical schematics (480V 3-Phase, VFDs, industrial controls) and mechanical components, with a strong willingness to learn from experienced technicians and advance their technical skills.
Responsibilities- Assist in performing inspections, repairs, and maintenance of hoists and related equipment.
- Support assembly, dismantling, and transportation of hoists under supervision.
- Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation.
- Use diagnostic tools and computer systems to identify and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues.
- Assist in resolving service calls and respond to breakdowns as required.
- Follow all company and customer safety procedures and policies.
- Complete daily timesheets, inspection forms, and service reports accurately.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Support other team members and perform additional duties as assigned to meet company needs.
- Basic understanding of 480V/3-phase electrical systems, schematics, and industrial controls.
- Some experience or coursework in electrical, mechanical, or electro-mechanical systems are preferred.
- Familiarity with AC/DC motors, drives, or PLCs is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to take initiative, follow instructions, and work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Valid state driver’s license required.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% and work evenings or weekends as needed.
- Ability to climb and work at heights safely.
- Professional certifications or trade school experience are a plus but not required.
