Plumber (Facilities Management Division)

Pay Range

Base pay range: $52,645.84/yr – $84,022.64/yr (actual pay will be based on skills and experience).

Job Summary

Under general to limited supervision, the employee performs a variety of journey‑level plumbing and related maintenance and repair work, efficiently using necessary tools and equipment according to established safety and process procedures. Regular inspections are conducted for pipe chases, restrooms, irrigation systems, lift stations, pumps, toilets, valves, waste lines, water fountains, and other plumbing or water‑related areas. Identified issues are reported to the supervisor and repaired as directed.

When components are inoperable or malfunctioning, the employee troubleshoots to identify the nature of the problem, locates needed parts, arranges assistance, and conducts repairs within division guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect public restrooms and related plumbing fixtures for proper functioning.
  • Replace broken fixtures, valves, pumps, controllers, and irrigation heads to restore functionality.
  • Troubleshoot non‑working fixtures, valves, irrigation systems, and lift station pumps.
  • Inspect irrigation systems and lift stations, ensuring proper operation and addressing non‑working components.
  • Perform routine maintenance on waste system lines, lift stations, and irrigation systems.
  • Create openings in walls for pipes, bend pipes, cut, ream, and thread pipe, and dig trenches or holes as needed.
  • Install, maintain, and repair water circulation and irrigation systems, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, venting, and sanitary fixtures.
  • Install and maintain PVC pipe systems, perform drain cleaning, replace washers on leaky faucets, and test for leaks under pressure.
  • Install pipe and hose on spray trucks and other specialized equipment.
  • Repair, replace, and service high and low pressure steam boilers, including blowing down, flushing, and inspecting safety devices.
  • Make estimates of time and materials, supervise helpers, and interact with the public to address service needs.
  • Perform related work as assigned by the supervisor or division.
Qualifications
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in maintenance plumbing or closely related experience.
  • Valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to interact frequently with county employees, state employees, and the public.
Preferences
  • Completion of a vocational training program in plumbing that includes commercial or industrial instruction.
  • Certified or Registered Plumbing Contractor.
  • Five (5) years or more of commercial or institutional plumbing experience.
  • Five (5) years or more of experience with domestic hot water systems.
  • Five (5) years or more of experience with drain systems and/or grease trap systems maintenance.
Additional Requirements
  • Proof of residency in Florida and a Level 2 Background Screening may be required.
  • Compliance with FBI/FDLE Criminal Justice Information (CJI) background screening policies for certain duties.
Physical Demands

Physical demands include walking, standing, stooping, stretching, lifting, and exerting 20–50 pounds of force on a regular basis. Exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals is part of routine work.
