Position SummaryThe Court Justice Advocate will provide targeted advocacy, assist survivors in understanding the court system, criminal prosecutions, and the role of survivors/witnesses, as well as develop safety plans and facilitate or refer participants to advocacy support groups for domestic violence survivors, fostering empowerment and knowledge of the criminal justice system.
Days/Hours40 hrs/week;
Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., or reflective of courthouse hours; flexible schedule required to meet agency needs.
- Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) or related field and minimum three years of relevant experience. Case management or criminal‑justice/legal experience preferred.
- Valid Florida driver’s license and safe driving record. Proof of automobile liability insurance.
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish/Creole/Portuguese).
- Provide services at the Broward County Courthouse, Women In Distress’ Main Campus, and satellite locations.
- Assist survivors in understanding court procedures, criminal prosecutions, and survivor witness roles; develop safety plans; refer to advocacy support groups.
- Accompany or arrange transportation for domestic‑violence survivors to civil and criminal court proceedings.
- Inform survivors of their rights under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), including orders of protection and criminal charges.
- Facilitate completion of services, mandated forms, and public justice resources available at the courthouse.
- Partner with supervisor to build court‑system partnerships, monitor domestic‑violence case responses, and refer survivors to Women In Distress residential and outreach programs.
- Ensure services are empowerment‑based and consistent with DCF Domestic Violence Program standards.
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Employee must complete Department of Children and Families (DCF) Core Competency training and obtain a passing grade of 75% or higher.
