Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Research Engineer / Data Scientist

We’re looking for a Research Engineer or Data Scientist to close the gap between what’s in this month’s papers and what runs at a marina. The problems are concrete: understand every phone call a marina takes, predict which lead becomes a lease, catch the vendor insurance certificate that’s about to lapse — at production cost and latency. You’d be the person who reads the paper, implements it, evaluates it honestly, and ships it.

Or kills it, with evidence.

What you’ll do
  • Research: Track the AI/ML work that matters — foundation models, agent architectures, retrieval methods — and pick the few techniques actually worth applying to Admiral’s problems. Most aren’t; knowing which is the job.
  • Prototype: Build working prototypes quickly — call analysis, predictive models, agent systems — and be ruthless about which ones survive contact with real marina data.
  • Productionize: Work with the engineering team to take successful prototypes into production. Design systems that are reliable, observable, and cost-effective at scale.
  • Measure: Define the metrics, design the experiments, and build the evaluation infrastructure — so ‘better’ is a number on a dashboard, not a feeling in a demo.
Preferred qualifications
  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong publication record or demonstrated applied research experience in AI/ML.
  • Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, JAX, or Tensor Flow).
  • Experience with LLMs, fine-tuning, RLHF, or retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Ability to translate research ideas into working code and production systems.
  • Strong mathematical foundations in statistics, linear algebra, and optimization.
  • Experience with cloud ML infrastructure (AWS Sage Maker, GCP Vertex AI, or similar).
  • Self-directed — you can carry a research question from framing to shipped result without a roadmap.
