The Manager - Ocean Carrier Services Optimization II & CQ will oversee car carrier vessel operations across the U.S. East Coast and Gulf regions. This role is responsible for managing vessel schedules and daily operations, including customs clearance and cargo handling, while ensuring all activities are executed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with regulations. The ideal candidate will also be expected to build and maintain strong relationships with terminal operators, port authorities, and other key service providers to support smooth and reliable shipping operations.
Responsibilities- Operations Management
- Develop and maintain base operational schedules and working plans tailored to vessel, port, and cargo requirements
- Oversee the execution of commercial contract obligations, ensuring all operational terms are met efficiently and accurately
- Review and refine service procedures, implementing corrections or improvements where necessary to maintain operational standards
- Prepare and analyze operational reports and schedules to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with performance targets
- Coordinate with port authorities, stevedoring companies, and agents to facilitate seamless vessel and cargo operations
- Contribute to cost analysis and operational budgeting, identifying opportunities for cost savings and process improvements
- Enhance vessel turnaround times by effectively managing berthing windows, labor deployment, and service requirements
- Maintain clear communication with stakeholders to ensure accurate monthly billing of long-haul operations
- Port Captain & Vessel Planner Support
- Provide direct support and act as a back up for Port Captains and vessel planner during vessel calls and operational activities, ensuring execution aligns with planning
- Build and manage effective relationships with key maritime service providers, including terminals, shipping agents, and stevedores
- Customs Filing Responsibilities
- Manage all import and export processes, ensuring full compliance with applicable regulations and the timely, accurate completion of required documentation
- Oversee and execute filings such as AMS, ISF, and bond movements, while ensuring the prompt distribution of discharge documents—including the manifest, VIN list, and stow plan—to all relevant stakeholders
- Team Management & Collaboration
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive accountability and continuous improvement
- Lead and manage operational and logistics projects as they arise, ensuring timely execution and team alignment
- Develop and maintain staff schedules, assigning responsibilities based on workload and operational priorities
- Provide support for additional logistics and operational tasks as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the team
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, including but not limited to CII, IMO, and other international maritime standards
- Proactively ensure that all operational activities are planned and executed in full compliance with relevant regulations and company policies
- Monitor individual and team activities to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and alignment with operational protocols
