Assistant Men’s and Women’s Wrestling Coach / Resident Advisor
Assistant Men’s and Women’s Wrestling Coach/Resident Advisor is responsible for assisting with all aspects of SCC’s NJCAA Division I Wrestling Program including practices, matches, travel, fundraising, recruiting, and any other duties related to the wrestling program. This position will also supervise student-athletes in the residence halls.
Position Type: .8 FTE professional services (208 work days per year). Starting salary of $18,000 per year plus fully‑paid room and board. Includes pro‑rated SCC benefits: medical, dental, vision, life, long‑term disability, sick leave, vacation, discretionary leave, paid spring and holiday breaks, and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plans.
Terms of employment comply with the employment contract and relevant policies of the Board of Trustees. The incumbent upholds college policies, supports SCC’s mission, vision, values, and goals, and promotes a positive image for the college district.
Responsibilities- Learn and embrace the community college philosophy, Iowa Code, ICCAC & NJCAA policies and procedures.
- Monitor student‑athlete academic progress.
- Collaborate with the head coach in planning and implementation of daily practices and matches.
- Recruit and retain student‑athletes to fill team rosters from outside the general student body and meet program numbers assigned by the Athletic Director.
- Establish fundraising opportunities and secure additional program funding.
- Assist the Head Coach in developing comprehensive plans for student‑athletes, including weight training, conditioning, and practice.
- Assist the Head Coach in gathering documentation for NJCAA eligibility.
- Transport students, supervise vehicles for recruiting and travel.
- Evaluate prospective student‑athletes.
- Engage in internal and community relations to enhance the program’s image.
- Maintain discipline and enforce acceptable behavior per SCC guidelines.
- Develop and facilitate recruiting materials and communications for prospective student‑athletes.
- Flexible with weekend work and varying early/late hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
- Education: Associate’s degree required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Experience: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in wrestling; coaching high school or college wrestling required, with preference for college‑level coaching.
- Strong human relations and interpersonal oral & written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn SCC’s administrative software (Ellucian).
- Work effectively with students, colleagues, and community; assist athletics department in general.
- Handle confidential matters with discretion; maintain high personal and professional integrity.
- Comprehend and abide by NJCAA, ICCAC, and SCC policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Learn to upload match film and statistics.
- Valid driver’s license.
- College‑level coaching experience.
- Other experience that enhances program success.
Physical demands include lifting, bending, squatting, jogging, and running. The physical demands of the job are necessary to complete the essential duties.
