Instructor - Chemistry (Fall 2026)

Position starting August 12, 2026. Salary commensurate with experience, minimum base $55,000 for 170‑day contract.
OverviewThe Chemistry Faculty at SCC provides educational services in accordance with college guidelines. The instructor will teach courses in the Chemistry discipline, primarily General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. The role may include travel to off‑campus sites and participation in college activities such as recruiting and advising.
Responsibilities- Motivate, interact, and communicate with students, faculty, administration, industry, and the public in a civil and respectful manner.
- Annually review and revise course goals, grading policies, and assessment of success; develop, implement, and disseminate course policies.
- Support college retention goals by encouraging students toward academic and occupational success.
- Design, develop, and/or revise new and existing courses and programs of study, including curriculum, syllabi, course outlines, and assessment tools.
- Maintain regular office hours, attendance records, and responsive student communication.
- Work collaboratively as a team member.
- Participate in college activities beyond the classroom, including recruiting, advising, and standing committee membership.
- Supervise students in work‑study, internships, clinical, and other work‑based experiences, when appropriate.
- Implement varied supplemental learning activities to accommodate student needs.
- Teach remotely via synchronous, online, and/or hybrid formats when required.
- Accept teaching assignments at all SCC locations, including off‑campus sites.
- Participate in the budget process, including requests for instructional materials.
- Report unsafe practices in accordance with college policies.
- Support the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and SCC’s affirmative action plan.
- Develop and maintain a professional development plan per the Quality Faculty Plan.
- Model professional behavior, values, and attitudes for students, colleagues, and the community.
- Acquire and maintain necessary materials and supplies for chemistry labs on West Burlington and Keokuk campuses.
- Master’s degree or higher in Chemistry.
- Minimum of three years of college teaching experience.
- Community college teaching experience preferred.
