POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Construction Surveyor is responsible for performing a wide variety of field surveying activities on industrial and construction projects throughout the Fort McMurray region.

This position is ideal for an experienced survey professional who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems in the field, and producing accurate, high‑quality work while supporting project success from start to finish.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Survey Operations

  • Perform construction layout for civil, structural, mechanical, and earthworks projects.
  • Complete topographic, as‑built, grade verification, and quantity surveys.
  • Operate Trimble GPS, Robotic Total Stations, digital levels, and survey software.
  • Collect accurate field data while maintaining detailed records and documentation.
  • Verify survey accuracy and perform quality control checks.

Project Support

  • Interpret engineering drawings and construction plans.
  • Coordinate survey activities with project managers, supervisors, and construction crews.
  • Identify and resolve field issues while maintaining productivity.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure proper calibration.

Safety & Quality

  • Follow all client and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete FLHAs and required documentation.
  • Promote a strong safety culture on every project.
  • Deliver accurate work while meeting project schedules and quality standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2+ years of construction surveying experience preferred.
  • Experience working on industrial, mining, municipal, or heavy civil construction projects.
  • Proficiency operating Trimble GPS and Robotic Total Station equipment.
  • Experience with Trimble Access, Business Center, or comparable survey software is considered an asset.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and construction plans.
  • Strong mathematical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
  • CSTS 2020
  • CSO
  • Standard First Aid with CPR
  • H2S Alive
  • Ground Disturbance Level II (asset)
  • Ability to pass client site access requirements, including drug and alcohol testing.
