Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a high school special education teacher for the Senior Inclusive Living Program (SILP) for grades 7‑12. The role is for the 2025‑2026 school year and requires extensive knowledge and experience in working with students who have complex medical, developmental, and learning needs.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the School Administrator, Classroom Support Teacher, Division Educational/Special Education Learning Coach, and parents to support students. Required knowledge, skills, and experience include:

• Literacy and numeracy support for students with varied skill levels
• Differentiated instruction for diverse learning needs
• Opportunity development for life‑skills (e.g., swim lessons, community outings, work skills)
• Communication and social skills practice with peers, staff, and the community
• Technology support, including augmentative communication tools
• Behavioral management with proven approaches to reduce stress behaviors and co‑regulate upset students
• Strong communication and support for high‑needs children and families
• Coordination of internal and external professionals for instructional and therapeutic programming
• Planning and support for Educational Assistants

• Specialized training or experience in Inclusive/Special Education
• Proven ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners
• Proficiency in assistive and instructional technologies, especially for communication support
• Experience with students with medical complexities and high behavioral needs
• Certification in Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or willingness to obtain it
• Eligibility for Alberta Teacher Certification and a Bachelor of Education degree

• Excellent organizational skills and adherence to the school schedule
• Commitment to education and enthusiasm for daily work with students
