The Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in the Independent Living Program
Qualifications:- Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma
- SMG (Safe Management Group) training
- First Aid and CPR Certification level C
- Able to swim on a regular and consistent basis
- Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
- Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
- Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
- Complete student or safety documentation, if directed by supervisor
- Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
- Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies - Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
- Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
- Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
- Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs, including for speech and non-verbal communication
- Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
- Swim program, able to swim in 50 meters, level 1 and 2
- Medical Procedures – including, but not limited to, Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting routines or diabetic monitoring may be required
- Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
- Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
- Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
- Physical ability to lift and move students
- Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
- Follow all relevant health and safety requirements as directed by supervisor
Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
