General Description

The Manager, Financial Planning is responsible for overseeing all activities of the Financial Planning section within the Corporate Services Division. This involves leading municipal-wide financial functions in the areas of financial planning and analytical services related to the budget cycle and budget management processes, corporate financial reporting, and financial statement preparation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Departmental Management – Assist the Controller and Chief Financial Officer with overall financial planning delivery, financial reporting, and the municipal financial management strategy; manage daily operations, budgeting, and long-term financial planning; direct and manage the centralized model of providing financial planning/analytical services; lead the Financial Management Strategy to assist the Municipality in transforming the finance function; manage the process for approved budget adjustments.
  • People Leadership – Strategically manage, lead, and inspire a team of finance professionals to deliver efficient and effective solutions, support, and exceptional customer service; ensure all employees work productively; recruit, train, and mentor staff; lead staff in the delivery of advice, recommendations, and decision support; manage training programs offered in the various finance functions.
  • Implementation of Strategies – Establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental clients; implement innovative and practical approaches to financial services policies and practices; lead the development and implementation of innovative approaches to department initiatives; ensure all programs are developed in accordance with legislation, policy, industry standards, and best practices.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and SAP finance modules.
    Education
    • Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    • Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) Designation is required.
    • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

    • Ten (10) years of progressive experience in a financial services environment with experience in financial planning and reporting.
