Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full time maintenance services worker. The position is responsible for maintaining facilities for staff, students and public in a safe operating condition, maintain a preventative maintenance program; and resolve immediate operational and/or safety concerns as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Grade 12 high school diploma or equivalent
  • Province of Alberta Class 5 driver's license with clean driver's abstract
  • Experience and training in the areas of general repair, carpentry, plumbing, heating, mechanical and other building systems
  • Able to read, write and speak English effectively for the purposes of work related communications
  • Being able to meet physical demands such as climbing and standing on ladders while working at heights, stretching, reaching, bending, standing, crawling etc
  • Competent in basic use of computer
  • Ability to read/comprehend/write detailed instructions, forms and reports Knowledge of safe work practices and applicable procedures
  • Maintain certifications required to perform required duties (e.g. fall arrest, aerial lift operation, first aid, WHMIS, etc)
  • Effective verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Able to build and maintain effective relationships with school administration, students, staff, parents and public
  • Reliable, with integrity and able to work as part of a diverse team
  • Able to safely lift and move heavy objects (up to 23 kgs) and use of applicable tools and equipment required for maintenance work
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Move, transport, assemble furniture and equipment
  • Perform repair of general maintenance work of facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment at all district or directed locations
  • Coordinate with Administration for the purpose of completing projects/work orders
  • Inspect facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs, preventative maintenance and meeting insurance and HSE regulations
  • Install of items (e.g. white boards, bulletin boards) as directed
  • Complete all work orders safely and within established time frames
  • Maintain tools and/or equipment; transport them if required
  • Repair various items, systems and/or components to ensure that they are in safe working condition
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns
  • Activating and deactivating building alarms and responding to alarm calls after and during regular work hours
  • Attend to other maintenance duties as assigned by Manager or designate

All FMCSD employees must have on file a clear Criminal Reference and a Vulnerable Sector Check. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
