Opportunity

We have exciting in-person locum opportunities available across various emergency departments including rural locations in Alberta for Nurse Practitioners. Be part of a vital initiative to provide temporary coverage within an emergency department as a full‑scope NP.

Prior experience in acute care and emergency care is essential. Coverage frequently includes medical inpatient units and affiliated long‑term care beds. On‑call peer support is available whenever you need it.

Description

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will integrate clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients.

You will also utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership, Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. This position is unionized and represented by the Alberta Union of Nurse Practitioners (AUNP).

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive health services and care across all age groups.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic conditions.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe treatment and perform procedures.
  • Utilize leadership skills for effective interprofessional collaboration.
  • Use advanced practice nursing competencies to improve care quality and health system efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program with a minimum of a Master’s degree.
  • Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Preferred:
    Emergency Nurse Practitioner certification (ENP) or equivalent.
  • Preference for those with Emergency Medicine

    Education:

    Adult EM Bootcamp/Hippo Education or equivalent;
    General Emergency Medicine Skills – GEMS.
  • Experience in pediatric care.
  • Previous rural and/or emergency nursing experience.
  • Strong teamwork, organizational, and self‑directed skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with Connect Care is beneficial.
