Who You Are

Mikisew Awasis Kisiwatsowin Society is seeking a Casework Supervisor to oversee and guide child intervention services to ensure the safety and well‑being of children and families following the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act and Casework Practice models. This position is based in Edmonton or Fort McMurray, AB.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, training, support, and direction to casework staff to deliver quality services under the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act.
  • Monitor, guide and evaluate the performance of casework staff.
  • Assist staff with case planning, management of agreements, court work, and permanency planning. Manage or assist with caseloads as required.
  • Review and monitor expenses and budgets.
  • Maintain statistics and provide regular reports.
  • Participate in the recruitment, orientation, and training of new employees.
  • Foster a positive and productive team environment, promoting staff development and engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory reporting requirements and maintain up‑to‑date records.
  • Make key decisions regarding the safety and placement of children.
  • Represent the agency at external meetings, conferences, and community forums as needed.
  • Stay informed about changes in legislation and practice standards, ensuring the team is aligned with current policies and practices.
  • Support and provide strong leadership that provides quality, culturally sensitive services to children and families.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the agency’s objectives.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Child Intervention with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Currently delegated or the ability to be delegated in the province of Alberta.
  • Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with families, staff, and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize and multi‑task.
  • Experience working knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset.
  • Ability to speak Dene or Cree is an asset.
Requirements
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a satisfactory 5‑year drivers abstract.
  • Child Intervention Record Check.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
  • Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.
  • Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
