DESCRIPTION

The Systems Engineer SME will serve as a principal technical authority supporting the architecture, modernization, and integration of DISA's cyber sensing capabilities. This position provides senior-level engineering leadership across complex sensing platforms including Open Sensor Platform (OSP), Full Packet Capture (FPCAP), Automated Security Validation (ASV), Intrusion Detection capabilities, and future enterprise sensing technologies. The SME will guide requirements development, engineering design, technical decision-making, integration planning, and lifecycle sustainment to ensure mission alignment, scalability, and technical excellence.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead advanced systems engineering and integration efforts supporting DISA's sensing development, sustainment, and modernization initiatives.
  • Translate operational needs and capability gaps into detailed, technically feasible requirements and architectures.
  • Develop and review system architectures, interface definitions, engineering diagrams, and technical design documentation.
  • Provide senior integration oversight across lab, cloud, hybrid, and operational environments.
  • Support configuration, deployment, evaluation, validation, and troubleshooting of sensing solutions and supporting infrastructure.
  • Lead performance, interoperability, and regression testing to ensure solution stability and readiness.
  • Conduct engineering trade studies and analyses of alternatives to support modernization and cloud migration strategies.
  • Participate in formal engineering reviews.
  • Produce detailed engineering artifacts including system design descriptions, build guides, ICDs, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, RMF/A&A, development, and O&M teams to ensure alignment with security and mission requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, leveraging lab replication and root-cause analysis.
  • Provide mentoring and technical leadership across the engineering team, including Systems Engineer II and III personnel.
DESIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible systems engineering or SE&I experience supporting DoD or large enterprise environments.
  • Expertise in distributed sensor systems, cybersecurity tools, and enterprise monitoring technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, virtualization, Linux/Windows systems, and hybrid/cloud architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience leading integration, testing, and engineering lifecycle activities.
  • Experience developing engineering documentation and architecture artifacts.
  • Experience participating in SRR/SFR/PDR/CDR reviews.
  • Experience supporting SIEM, packet capture, IDS/IPS, and threat-detection technologies preferred.
  • Ability to lead technical teams, manage competing priorities, and communicate clearly with technical and executive audiences.

Pay Range

$145,000 - $158,000 per year
