Join MITRE’s “DoDIN Enterprise Foundations” engineering team as a Lead Cyber Security Engineer and play a direct role in protecting the nation’s most critical leadership communications. In this high‑impact, on‑site trusted‑advisor role, you will shape the cyber security posture of DISA’s National Leadership Command Capabilities (NLCC) by driving the engineering of classified communications systems and services used by senior national leaders.

You will partner closely with government leadership to anticipate and counter advanced cyber threats—advising on how to protect, detect, respond, and recover—while influencing decisions that span technical, operational, security, business, and financial domains. Your expertise in defensive cyberspace operations will enhance the resilience and reliability of mission‑essential capabilities, and your contributions to policy and guidance will help set the standard for how the nation defends its most sensitive communication networks.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provide on‑site long‑term trusted‑advisor cyber security support to the development, fielding, sustainment and operational employment of the classified NLCC services and infrastructures.
  • Advise and assist government leadership with the cyber security efforts to protect against, detect, respond and recover from cyber attacks. Work closely with the technical, operational, security, business, and financial efforts required to support these functions.
  • Assist the sponsor in his/her role of managing a portfolio of legacy and new start communications/IT systems and services, to include overseeing and/or participating in technical and operational assessments of the cyber security of these systems/services.
  • Collaborate with mission stakeholders, assess requirements and identify gaps. Develop and recommend near‑term mitigations and/or long‑term strategies for requirements gaps and/or operational issues related to cyber security. Provide recommendations to improve defensive cyberspace operations – internal defensive measures (DCO‑IDM) and the cyber resiliency of the portfolio’s systems and services.
  • Participate in the development of technically informed policies and guidance related to cyber security.
Basic Qualifications
  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience in DoD cyber operations, such as leadership of or participation in a Service or COCOM cyber protection team (CPT) or government agency equivalent with a BS in Computer Science or equivalent or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • In‑depth understanding of DoD Cybersecurity Defense strategies, policies, requirements procedures, and implementations related to cyber security.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with government leadership and classified mission partners.
