Principal Software Engineer

Wyetech is seeking a highly motivated Principal Software Engineer (SWE4) to support the development, integration, and evaluation of innovative software solutions and emerging technologies. The successful candidate will install, configure, develop, and integrate prototype applications for technical evaluation within a laboratory environment, providing direct support to customers developing and testing experimental capabilities.

This position focuses on developing solutions to address common challenges across analyst offices, extending enterprise services, supporting advanced analytics and machine learning, and developing commercial cloud solutions. The Principal Software Engineer will collaborate directly with customers, developers, and data scientists to gather requirements, incorporate feedback, and deliver mission-focused software capabilities.

• Strong software development experience using multiple programming languages, including Java and Python.

• Experience installing, configuring, developing, and integrating prototype applications for technical evaluation.

• Experience supporting laboratory environments, customer experiments, and prototype development activities.

• Experience integrating applications and services with customer cloud-based data systems.

• Experience developing software solutions that extend enterprise services and support mission-specific analytical capabilities.

• Experience supporting the integration and evaluation of open-source software, emerging technologies, and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications.

• Ability to collaborate directly with customers, developers, and data scientists to gather requirements, evaluate technical solutions, and incorporate user feedback.

• Experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining complex software applications.

• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented programming, and software architecture.

• Experience troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing software applications and system integrations.

• Ability to develop technical documentation and communicate software capabilities to mission stakeholders.

• Experience working throughout the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, integration, deployment, and maintenance.

• Experience with mathematical, statistical, or computational modeling.

• Experience developing or integrating Machine Learning (ML) solutions.

• Experience with Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration.

• Experience developing software applications in Linux environments.

• Experience designing and developing analytical applications and data processing capabilities.

• Experience with Virtual Machines (VMs), including configuration, deployment, and management.

• Familiarity with cloud-native development and commercial cloud services.

• Experience integrating emerging technologies into existing enterprise environments.

• Experience supporting research, development, testing, and evaluation activities.

• Demonstrated technical leadership and experience mentoring or guiding software development teams.

The Software Engineer analyzes, designs, verifies, validates, implements, applies, and maintains complex software systems. Applies discrete mathematics, probability, statistics, computer science principles, and supporting technical disciplines to address complex software engineering challenges.

The Software Engineer generalizes development techniques across multiple domains, develops appropriate technical documentation and training materials, and presents briefings and demonstrations to stakeholders. This position requires advanced programming expertise, analytical problem-solving skills, and the ability to deliver reliable, scalable software solutions that support evolving mission requirements.
