Qualifications- Valid state teaching certificate required with specific endorsement in the assigned area.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university.
- Must be able to perform each essential duty assigned satisfactorily.
- Teaching experience must have an acceptable evaluation rating for such teaching.
Principal and Special Services Director

Job GoalTo develop and implement an instructional program that will effectively provide an appropriate education for each student.
Professional Performance- Ability to set professional goals and work to meet those goals.
- Plan and implement lessons based on school and board policies and regulations.
- Work cooperatively with total staff.
- Demonstrate professional growth.
- Relate positively to staff, parents/guardians and other community representatives.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that can be adapted to meet each student's needs.
- Complete mandated forms and paperwork for substitutes to comply with State and Federal guidelines.
- Record keeping and general clerical functions (student records, daily progress charts, correcting papers, copying, preparing instructional materials, etc.)
- Maintain prompt and accurate records and reports.
- Command of standard English, both spoken and written.
- Accept responsibilities outside the classroom as related to school.
- Adhere to FERPA guidelines, especially confidentiality.
- Assist students requiring support in personal care needs due to medical condition or physical limitations (toileting, feeding, etc.) and physically assist them (lifting, balance).
- Attend meetings and in‑service presentations (first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, State/Federal guidelines, etc.) to acquire and convey job‑related information.
- Adhere to State/Federal assessment guidelines (S.C. State Dept. of Education).
- Maintain instructional materials and student files/records (adapting materials, checking papers, attendance, audiovisual equipment, art/science projects).
- Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for learning.
- Show interest in students.
- Encourage self‑direction and self‑motivation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the subject being taught.
- Adjust presentation of subject content to students’ needs and interests.
- Maintain an organized program of instruction based on effective long‑range plans.
- Produce evidence of effective lesson plans.
- Use a variety of appropriate materials and resources.
- Communicate lesson objectives and their importance to students.
- Use current educational teaching techniques that involve educational research, technology, and learning activities.
- Use out‑of‑class assignments, when appropriate, to support instructional objectives.
- Maintain an effective system of monitoring student progress.
- Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials as directed to include all special education students at different levels and functional limitations.
- Willingness and ability to learn technology to facilitate student successes.
- Maintain discipline appropriate to the learning situation.
- Keep students on task.
- Use positive reinforcement and constructive criticism to maintain good discipline.
- Monitor students in various activities (classroom, playground, halls, field trips, lunch, etc.) to provide a safe, positive learning environment.
- Vision (corrected if necessary) to read small print.
- Mobility to stand, stoop, reach, bend; perform repetitive bending, stretching, coping with student activities.
- Dexterity to grasp and manipulate small objects and ensure student safety.
- Lift up to 40 lbs; push and/or pull to implement Individual Education Plans and provide services including safety and healthcare needs.
- Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions; multiple or single classrooms.
- Strength and endurance to support students in recreational, therapeutic and leisure activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Perform related duties when assigned student(s) does not require services.
- 190 days each year, exempt‑level position.
- Salary to be determined by the Board of Trustees.
- Evaluation annually per board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
