Overview

Swim Lesson Coordinator - Part Time. Under supervision of the Aquatics Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Swim Lesson Coordinator is responsible for leading, organizing and teaching swim lessons according to the Red Cross swim program or to the YMCA of the USA program standards.

Base pay range

$12.00/hr - $15.00/hr

Responsibilities
  • Teach swim lessons according to the YMCA of the USA standards
  • Create a positive learning environment through personal enthusiasm
  • Be safety-conscious, maintain order and enforce rules during lessons to ensure swimmer safety
  • Keep accurate records of attendance and skills achieved by each student, each session
  • Provide each student with written records of progress
  • Use swimming aids effectively to maximize each individual’s practice time
  • Utilize written lesson plans for each lesson to make the most efficient use of class time
  • Assist in planning and leading staff meetings and in-service training
  • Serve as new swim instructor mentor and trainer
  • Conduct evaluations on new swim instructors
  • Assist in program evaluation process
  • Assist in parent/participant orientation
  • Effectively communicate with parents
  • Serve as pool deck manager if Director is unavailable
  • Assist with supervising and evaluating swim instructors
  • Assist with swim instructor scheduled to include roster distribution
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have 3+ years of teaching or coaching experience
  • Must have a minimum of 1,000 hours of teaching experience and/or continuing education
  • Must obtain or have a current Red Cross WSI or YMCA Swim Instructor Certification
  • Current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED, O2
  • Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Must have a positive attitude and desire to achieve the mission of the Upper Palmetto YMCA
  • Physical requirements:

    walking, carrying, sitting, seeing, hearing, crouching, lifting (25 pounds), pushing, kneeling, standing and speaking
