Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

- Have a valid driver's license.
- Ability to assist the public with tact and enthusiasm.
- A genuine passion for working with children.
- Possess and maintain CDL
-B with P&S endorsement, or ability to obtain said license and certification within six months. - Satisfactory completion of the driver training course conducted by the State Department of Education.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Job GoalTo operate a school bus in accordance with all state laws and regulations to transport students to and from school facilities and maintain discipline of students being transported.
Performance Responsibilities- Conduct pre-trip inspection of school bus prior to every trip for defects.
- Use established routes and designated bus stops.
- Report bus accidents and student injuries to authorities.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills in keeping with state regulations.
- Operate bus on approved time schedule.
- Maintain discipline of students being transported.
- Drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.
- Operate equipment in accordance with all state laws and regulations.
- Wash bus inside and out.
- Report bus defects to supervisor.
- Assign students to seats and maintain a current status of students.
- Establish a safe, supportive, positive and productive environment.
- Exhibit a positive image as a loyal representative of the school district.
- Be alert and exercise good judgment concerning emergencies.
- Maintain a neat and clean personal appearance.
- Complete all paperwork required by the state or by the school district.
- Attend all in-service days required by the school district.
- Perform other duties as required.
In addition to successfully passing the South Carolina Department of Education Physical Performance test, drivers must be able to assist, move, push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and be physically able to withstand prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, walking, reaching, and repetitive movements.
Terms of EmploymentBD1 FMSD Salary Schedule, 180 contract days per year. Non-exempt. Salary placement based upon experience and education based on district formula.
EvaluationPerformance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of non-certified personnel.
