Position Overview

The Operations Leader – Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department and drives the sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. The Operations Leader – Animal Care coaches and mentors all Pet Care Center partners in processes to support and drive the guest experience and animal care. The role trains, develops, supports operations scheduling and leads a high-performing team that delivers the Companion Animal department’s budgeted sales goals, gross margin, animal and merchandise shrink targets.

They assist in managing all aspects of the Pet Care Center’s business in accordance with Petco operational standards and safety procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize business acumen to measure, analyze and diagnose business trends and implement business improvement plans.
  • Ensure the health and well-being of live animals by providing care in accordance with Petco standards, policies and procedures, including completion of hourly animal health checks and wellness cards.
  • Adhere to Veterinary Protocol for all sick animals.
  • Process register transactions to create a positive guest experience.
  • Be proficient in the selling model and support guest interactions as needed.
  • Train and coach partners to implement Companion Animal Operations and Aquatics (where applicable) across:
    Animal Care, Aquatics and Companion Animal Maintenance, Ordering, Regulatory Compliance, CAPI, HAHC, CAPC and Vet Care/Relationships.
  • Efficiently order live animals to maximize sales, margin and inventory. Analyze inventory data and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain operational standards in the department.
  • Ensure maintenance tasks are completed as outlined on Maintenance Task List.
  • Maintain high presentation standards in aquatics and companion animal areas.
  • Partner with Merchandising to ensure proper in-stock merchandise levels and report on changes or overrides related to in-store goals.
  • Ensure proper handling and documentation for all Adoption Animals.
  • Monitor PCC Sales and Margin reports and data.
  • Lead, provide feedback, and coach PCC partners to deliver quality service and meet guest needs.
  • Coordinate partner scheduling to meet in-stock goals and guest service levels, especially during peak hours.
  • Apply talent management skills in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching and succession planning.
  • Provide quick and courteous service by identifying needs, sharing product knowledge, and recommending merchandise using the selling strategy.
  • Support Omni Channel implementation through training and coaching (BOPUS, Ship-from-store, Curbside, Endless Aisle, etc.).
  • Act as Leader on Duty to support Pet Care Center execution, training, communications, safety, policies, and promotions.
  • Train, coach, and develop Pet Care Center operations partners with the sales team.
  • Promote a positive leadership culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Demonstrate Petco Leadership Expectations.

Education And Experience
  • A high school diploma or equivalent required; some college business/management coursework preferred.
  • 1+ years of management experience required; 2+ years preferred.
  • Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Proficiency in communication, organizational and computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
