DescriptionThe Respiratory Care Practitioner performs ABG punctures according to P/P manual; takes and records patients vital signs, including breath sounds, ventilator status, mental status, and response to treatment; provides the patient with specialized, personal care; assembles and disassembles, operates and maintains, troubleshoots, cleans, and performs minor repairs on equipment; sets ventilator parameters according to P/P manual and doctors orders; secures/assists in the placing/taping of E.T. tube properly, minimizing facial/oral and tracheal trauma;
records patient response to treatment on respiratory care notes; completes all billing paperwork; performs EKG's and notifies RN/MD of any adverse findings;files and maintains patient EKG and ECHO charts and assures that records are complete;assess patients, including development of plan of care and discharge plan, and assures home environment needs are met;educates patient according to needs identified in the assessment;identifies
patient and verifies orders before administration of any treatment or respiratory care to patient;explains plan of care to the patient and acknowledges/ documents level of understanding;provides proper concentration of pharmacological salutations and administers appropriately as prescribed by MD, and monitors for effectiveness; and performs other duties as assigned.
Degree / Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- Requires AZ Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
- Current BLS, PALS and NRP required upon hire.
- Must obtain ACLS within 90 days of hire.
- Able to perform basic respiratory care procedures on newborns, pediatrics and adults.
- Requires CRT or RRT Credentials.
- Must be able to work day shift, evening shift, night shift, or weekends as
- Must be willing to work periodic overtime and be prepared to take call as
- Maintains appropriate patient care documentation in accordance with P & P manual.
Experience Required : 3 years hospital respiratory therapy experience preferred.
SpecialSkills & Qualifications
Must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with team members, all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and other contacts. Must possess the ability to effectively function in a stressful environment. Must possess the ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time and lift heavy objects; assist patients to and from bed/wheelchair/gurney;
and to perform the essential duties of the position. Must possess the ability to use the following equipment:
Telephone / Overhead Paging System / Fax Machine / Calculator / Computer / Wheelchair / Gurney / Hospital Beds. Must be able to work any scheduled shifts. Must be willing to work periodic overtime and be prepared to take call as requested. Completed Competency Based Skills Checklists for unit(s) assigned. Able to perform basic respiratory care procedures on newborns, pediatrics and adults.
