American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring a CO or compact RN license and 2+ years of experience.
Requirements- Active CO or compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- Experience or comfort working in a rural hospital setting with lower resources and typically lower patient volumes is ideal
- Must be comfortable independently reading telemetry strips and escalating concerns
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Acute care Med/Surg unit with 14 beds and a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patient population includes CHF, hypertension, chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, GI bleeding, and acute renal failure
- RNs titrate drips including analgesics, anticoagulants, and antihypertensives
- No dedicated tele techs; RNs must be comfortable reading their own telemetry strips and escalating concerns to a physician
- Uses respiratory therapy equipment including CPAP, BiPap, high flow, and vents
- Charting is done in EPIC
- Night shift schedule with self-scheduling and block scheduling options
- Required to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
- Holiday coverage required
- Floating required, with travelers typically floated first, as determined by the nurse manager and department needs
- Call or standby requirements determined by the nurse manager
- Charge nurse/house supervisor support is available and the charge nurse may take a patient assignment
- Nurse aide support is provided once the unit reaches 9 patients
- Provide direct patient care for a Med/Surg patient population including cardiac, respiratory, and gastrointestinal cases
- Must reside at least 60 miles from the facility
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Clinicians must be in-state for the week of orientation, though some first-day modules may be completed remotely
- Unit/department-specific orientation date and location will be assigned during orientation week
- Travelers hired into this position are expected to float within their assigned zone and are responsible for securing housing that allows them to meet this requirement
- Facility can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
