Assistant Professor, Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Florida Gulf Coast University’s (FGCU) Marieb College of Health and Human Services (MCHHS) invites nominations, inquiries, and applications in search of an assistant professor to serve as core faculty in its growing Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program. Reporting to the Program Director this faculty member will hold the rank of assistant professor. The level of appointment will be based on qualifications and experience.
Candidates seeking assistant professor rank are required to have teaching experience at the university level and a scholarship record commensurate for appointment at that rank. This full-time position is a 12-month, on-campus continuing appointment reporting to the chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator.
Primarily engaged in teaching, service, scholarly activities and creative works, or any combination of these general areas, the assistant professor may represent Florida Gulf Coast University, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or statewide committees. The assistant professor will employ successful use of appropriate pedagogies, modes of teaching, and evidence-based and reflective practices. Classroom instruction includes planning for a variety of teaching and learning strategies directed at meeting individual learning styles in lecture, online, and hybrid formats.
Responsibilitiesof the position include, but are not limited to:
- Teach assigned courses and adequately perform other duties/responsibilities as articulated on the annual assignment.
- Participate in clinical teaching, supervision, and advising.
- Hold office hours.
- Attend departmental meetings.
- Adopt course materials in a timely manner.
- Adopt the university learning management system.
- Adopt other campus-wide technology platforms as appropriate to other specified job duties.
- Complete mandatory/required training in a timely manner.
- Abide by university policies and regulations.
- Participate in the evaluation process in accordance with the CBA and related documents.
- Participate in the assessment process as required by the Counseling Department.
- Timely and professional communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators
- Engage in essential duties with the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, excellence, and within the accepted practices and norms of your respective field/profession.
- Prepare syllabi and instructional materials, develop and deliver lectures, tests, and evaluate students.
- Engage in reflective self-assessment of teaching styles and methods to ensure consistently effective instructional performance.
- Ensure the timely completion and reporting of student learning assessments.
- Continued professional development activity is expected at a level commensurate with rank and the mission of the University.
- Actively participate in community, institutional, and professional service in furtherance of FGCU's mission.
- Attend faculty and college meetings as required.
- Participate in curriculum development and advancement of the respective program.
- Prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures that align with curriculum goals.
- Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
- Advise students and provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
- Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education and Supervision from an accredited University and a CACREP-accredited program. ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by start date.
- Licensure as a Mental Health Counselor in Florida. Current clinical licensure in another state with eligibility to achieve Florida LMHC licensure within one (1) year of hire may be substituted.
Qualifications:
- At least three (3) years of paid experience as a clinical mental health counselor.
- Demonstrated background in systemic treatment modalities.
- Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy.
- Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
