Job Summary:
Schedule patient surgery. To schedule new and established patient appointments. This position will have unrestricted access to protected health information (PHI) pertaining to their patients.
Essential Functions:
- Admit patients to exam rooms, ensuring accurate medical documentation
- Identify patient's chief complaint and prepare them for doctor visits
- Perform various medical procedures, including wound care and suture removal
- Schedule surgeries, physical therapy, and order necessary tests
- Coordinate closely with hospitals and surgery centers for surgery bookings
- Obtain medical clearances, prior history, and verify medications
- Secure prior authorizations for upcoming surgeries
- Maintain a detailed surgery schedule and communicate details to patients
- Handle patient calls, prescriptions, and education of procedures
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of examination rooms
Core Competences:
- Responsible for promoting the Standards of Excellence for Orthopedic Specialists while demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior toward patients, visitors, volunteers, peers and physicians
- Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize work during heavy workload situations to expedite patient care
- Maintain strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
- Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments
- Work independently while understanding the need to communicate and coordinate work efforts with other employees and organizations
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year healthcare experience with surgery scheduling
- Strong organizational skills
Minimum Requirements:
- Computer Literate - Windows environment
- Ability to perform essential duties as assigned
- Ability to clearly communicate written and verbal instructions
- Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and prioritize
- Ability to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology, equipment, procedures, instruments and common safety hazards and precautions
Essential Physical Functions:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients at times;
Standing and walking for extensive periods of time - Occasional lifting, carrying supplies, squatting, and bending
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, calculator and other office equipment as necessary
- Ability to view computer screens for long periods of time

- Computer, scanner, printer, calculator, photocopier, facsimile, telephones
- Various Lab, Medical and Testing equipment
