Agricultural Technician - Sweet Pepper

Sakata Seed America, Inc. provided pay range: $21.00/hr - $24.00/hr

The position supports the SAI Sweet Pepper breeding program by performing greenhouse and field activities such as sowing, transplanting, crop maintenance, sanitation, pollination, harvesting, evaluation, record keeping, and seed extraction. The candidate will also manage greenhouse timing, equipment preparation, and product quality to meet breeding objectives.

• Coordinate pollination and seed extraction, including training new workers in emasculation and pollination techniques.
• Report greenhouse populate issues (irrigation, plant health, production needs) to the manager.
• Maintain cleanliness and readiness of harvest crates, sow trays, seed bags, and processing equipment.
• Assist both greenhouse and field harvests, identify problems such as low seed production or contamination, and communicate them to management.
• Execute pepper seed extraction procedures, train staff, follow protocols, notify managers of low chemical stocks, and work toward clean, high‑quality seed output.
• Coordinate, evaluate, and transplant off‑station trials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Accurate, detail‑oriented work under environmental stresses and within tight time frames.
• Proficient communication in Spanish and conversational English.
• Ability to work extra hours when required.
• Effective stress management during key projects, deadlines, and high workload periods.

• High School Diploma.
• Minimum 5 years in seed, agriculture, or crop experience.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Farm background desired.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software preferred.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Perform work in varying weather conditions.
• Travel as necessary.
• Lift up to 50 pounds seasonally.
• Work with chemicals and irritants safely.
• Wear required personal protective equipment.
• Operate in dusty, windy, and wet environments.

• Occasional after‑hours, weekend, or holiday work.
