Job Overview

As a heavy equipment welder, you will be responsible for welding and fabricating metal components for heavy machinery and vehicles. This includes performing repairs, modifications, and customizations to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. You will work closely with mechanics, technicians, and operators to maintain and enhance the performance of heavy equipment.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while performing welding and fabrication tasks. Ensure that work areas are free from hazards and that personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn as required.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other members of the maintenance team, including mechanics, technicians, and supervisors, to coordinate repairs and prioritize tasks based on equipment downtime and operational needs.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of welding activities, including materials used, repair procedures performed, and equipment maintenance schedules. Document any modifications or customizations made to equipment for future reference.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on welding techniques, technologies, and best practices. Seek opportunities for skills development and training to enhance welding proficiency and efficiency.

    Skills:

    Proficiency in various welding techniques, including arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and oxy-acetylene welding. Ability to weld metal components of different thicknesses and materials commonly used in heavy equipment.
  • Fabrication

    Experience:

    Experience in metal fabrication, including reading and interpreting blueprints, using metalworking tools and equipment, and fabricating complex metal structures.
  • Certifications: Certification in welding from a recognized institution or vocational training program. Additional certifications in welding processes, such as AWS (American Welding Society) certification, preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a welder in a heavy equipment maintenance or repair environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure welds meet quality standards and specifications. Ability to detect and correct defects in welded joints.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Identify damaged or worn-out components on heavy machinery and vehicles and perform welding repairs to restore them to working condition. This includes repairing cracks, fractures, and structural damage.
  • Physical Abilities: Ability to lift heavy materials and work in various positions, including kneeling, bending, and standing for extended periods. Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are essential.
  • Safety Consciousness: Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety regulations and protocols. Knowledge of safety procedures related to welding operations and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
