The Utilities Department is seeking a skilled and motivated Trades worker - Water Infrastructure to join our team. This is advanced-level technical and trades work involving the maintenance, repair, and installation of water distribution systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in utility work and a strong understanding of water infrastructure systems.

  • Perform complex repairs, maintenance, and installations of water distribution infrastructure.
  • Install, replace, and repair water lines (1–36), water valves, fire hydrants, and water meters.
  • Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment, including:
    • Track hoes
    • Backhoes
    • Loaders
    • Vac‑Con trucks
    • Dump trucks
  • Utilize hand and power tools specific to the trade.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues in the water distribution system.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, diagrams, and technical sketches.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum six (6) months of relevant work experience in utilities or a related field, such as:
    • Water or sewer systems
    • Natural gas
    • Irrigation
    • Plumbing
    • Electrical
    • Telecommunications installation
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid Class E Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Must possess a Florida Class A Commercial Learner’s Permit with Tanker Endorsement prior to receiving a job offer.
  • Must obtain a Florida Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement within 90 days of hire.
  • The Utilities Department will provide training, equipment, and cover all associated costs to help you obtain your CDL.
  • Must complete and pass the DEP Level 3 Water Distribution Operator training course and exam within two years of hire.
Additional Requirements
  • This is a safety-sensitive position and subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as per DOT regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under minimal supervision.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
On‑Call: Required rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays
