Responsibilities
  • Performs skilled to highly skilled trades work in area assigned
  • Performs general maintenance tasks
  • Operates various manual and electrical tools in the performance of tasks
  • Clean and repair equipment as needed
  • May be required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks
  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Emergency Responsibilities

Responsibilities and reporting during an emergency situation:
Essential employees may be required to work during a declared emergency, which may require working around the clock for several days on short notice. Non-Essential employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency; the Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment required for assigned task
  • Knowledgeable in occupational hazards, safety precautions and personal protective equipment observed in the trade(s) assigned
  • Knowledgeable in City and State rules, regulations and protocols
  • Knowledgeable in general housekeeping practices
  • Skilled in the efficient and safe operation of trade specific tools and equipment
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and repair within assigned trade(s)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to adapt to performing under frequent deadlines and/or in response to emergencies
  • Ability to operate vehicles and necessary equipment including hand tools
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and interpretation based on acquired knowledge in circumstances where limited standardization exists
  • Ability to receive and understand oral and written directions
  • Ability to recognize and address common safety issues in the field
  • Ability to detect improper functioning mechanical systems
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED. Experience or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities can be substituted for the High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum two years of experience in related field
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License
Physical Demands

This work typically requires the following physical activities to be performed.

  • Balancing, climbing, crawling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing (two categories), kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, speaking, standing, stooping, talking (two categories), visual acuity (multiple aspects), walking
Work Environment
  • Tasks are performed outside, subject to weather conditions and uneven terrain, with risk of exposure to toxic agents/chemicals, pathogens, and smoke
  • Contact with internal and external customers, vendors and the general public
  • Ability to perform strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions
  • Must have the ability to work after hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and during emergencies
  • May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including on-call hours
