Job Summary
Responsible for duties in support of departmental efficiencies including scheduling, registration, pre‑admission, admission, reception and discharge functions. Must obtain complete and accurate patient demographic information and employ proper, compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during and after date of service.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Greeting patients following Conifer Standards of Care, providing world‑class customer service, completing full patient registration at date of service, adhering to financial & cash control policies & procedures and thoroughly explaining and securing Hospital & patient legal forms.
- Educating patients about financial liabilities, employing compliant collection techniques, performing Hospital cash reconciliation & securing payment entry in adherence to financial & cash control policies.
- Securing medical necessity checks, verifying insurance, benefits & coverage, obtaining authorizations for scheduled & unscheduled Hospital services, and coordinating post‑discharge care.
- Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm
- Working knowledge of PC/CRT/printer
- Knowledge of hospital environment preferred
- Customer service skills and experience
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Oral and written communication skills
- Understanding of Third Party Payor requirements preferred
- Understanding of Compliance standards preferred
- Perform essential duties in at least two Patient Access service areas including Emergency Department
- Professional negotiation techniques to collect dues
- Collaboration with internal and external clients for effective communication
- Interpret physician orders, medical terminology and insurance cards while maintaining Conifer Standards of Care
- Must be able to sit at computer terminal for extended periods of time
- Resolve Physician’s office and Patient issues in high volume environments
- Occasionally lift/carry items weighing up to 25 lbs
- Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, and walking
- Occasionally push a wheelchair to assist patients with mobility problems
- Hospital administration
- Work in patient care locations with potential exposure to life‑threatening patient conditions
Conifer requires candidates to obtain and provide confirmation of all required vaccinations and screenings prior to the start of employment, including COVID‑19 and influenza vaccinations.
Education / Experience- High School Diploma or GED required
- 0–1 year in a Customer Service role
- 0–1 year administrative experience in a medical facility preferred
- Some college coursework preferred
- Must be available to work hours and days as needed based on departmental/system demands
