Seasonal Maintenance Worker; Historic Preservation

The purpose of the position is to perform simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as masonry, carpentry, plumbing, roofing, painting, and other work such as documentation, reporting, and monitoring, as part of a multi-disciplinary preservation program in the conservation of historic and prehistoric ruins and structures.

You may be assigned to assist journeyman carpenters, plumbers, and electrician with projects related to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, heating, air conditioning, masonry, and routine maintenance of generators. May be required to drive pickup trucks and other vehicles up to 1 ton in a variety of traffic situations and road conditions. May operate various types of power equipment.

You may be assigned to clean public restrooms, pick up and haul garbage; perform minor repairs, including some plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work; pick up litter at visitor use areas; maintain campgrounds and associated facilities such as public water and wastewater systems, fire pits, fish cleaning station, picnic areas, etc., grounds, trails, boardwalks, and otherwise maintain park facilities. These positions require that you operate light pickups, electric carts, small tractors, and other types of small power equipment and hand tools.

Identifies and corrects job safety and health hazards. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices, hard hats, seat belts, steel-toed shoes, respirators, and protective clothing as required by the work being performed.

A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.
