Baptist Health Fort Smith, is recruiting a Pediatrician who will have a clinic and also help cover the hospital at least ten days per month. This is a new opportunity that has been created to meet both patient and physician needs. BHFS is a 492-bed hospital with a Level II NICU and an L&D service that delivers from 90-120 babies per month.

Currently there is one employed pediatrician one private practice physician who covers the pediatric service at the hospital. The recruitment need is for a physician who will manage the newborn inpatients (healthy babies as well as those in the NICU), the pediatric inpatients, and help to grow the program line. Currently the daily census in the hospital averages four infants in the NICU and two children.

There is opportunity to grow this program line as there is only one other community hospital in town and the nearest Children’s Hospitals are either 67 miles to Springdale, AR or 160 miles to Little Rock, AR. The ideal candidate will be a physician who is experienced and comfortable caring for inpatient newborns as well as those in the NICU and will collaborate care with other physicians and will work well with the nursing staff.

Baptist Health Fort Smith is a 492-bed hospital complete with an emergency department, intensive care unit, outpatient imaging and surgery center. It offers a wide range of specialties including cardiology, neuro-interventional radiology, orthopedics, pediatrics and geriatric medicine. The facility is accredited by the Joint Commission and continues to earn recognition for exceptional stroke and heart care by national agencies. The system also includes a 103-bed hospital nearby in Van Buren and more than 40 clinic locations.

Baptist Health-Fort Smith, formerly known as Sparks Regional Medical Center, was built in 1887 making it the state’s first hospital.

Located on the Arkansas River, Fort Smith is the third largest city in Arkansas and home to roughly 90,000 people. Fort Smith offers unique dining and shopping experiences, as well as access to some of the state’s richest history and art. The Fort Smith National Historic Site traces the town’s origins as a military post during the frontier era and along with several other historic sites and museums continues to draw guests from across the country.
